Appendix : A pain that comes along with born

In the human body, there are large number of intestine and they are divided into two types i.e. large intestine and small intestine. All the intestines have their own opening and closing point. But there is a one intestine which has opening pore but not closing pore. And this intestine come along with birth which has not any major function. This intestine called Appendix. It is located in the lower right side of the abdomen and it is attached with large intestine.

Why the Appendix causes pain?

When the appendix becomes blocked or infected this condition called appendicitis. Appendicitis occurs when the appendix blocked or infected and leading towards the inflammation. This condition can happen with any ages people. There is no fixed age, but it majorly found in the 10 to 30 years old people. Symptoms often begin with dull pain near the navel, progressing to the sharp pain in the lower right abdomen. This is the primary symptoms of appendix but it has also some secondary symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, fever, and loss of appetite.

If appendicitis left untreated then it can be rupture the appendix which cause severe complications such as peritonitis. Peritonitis is the life-threatening infection of the abdominal lining which may cause death.

How is Appendicitis diagnosed and treated?

Doctors diagnose appendicitis through CT scans or ultrasound and blood test to check for infection.

Treatment options:

1. Surgery:  The most common solution to remove the appendix is surgery which is also called Appendectomy. Through surgery appendicitis cured of any stages.

2. Antibiotics: In some cases there is no need to do surgery for treatment of appendicitis. Only antibiotics can treat mild appendicitis but the appendicitis can happen again.

Can Appendicitis be prevented?

While there is no guaranteed way to prevent appendicitis. But taking a diet rich in fiber from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains may reduce the chances of happening appendicitis. Regular hydration and avoiding constipation may also help.

Life without an Appendix

Those who remove the appendix, they don't have to worry. As I said in introduction it has no functions and it has no major issue of not having. It's absence doesn’t typically affect the log-term health. However some research shows that it can reduce the guts immunity especially in children.
